In 1948, Ford introduced the F Series trucks, which is considered the start of the first-generation. There is a total of 13 generations of Ford trucks.

What are the Ford Truck Generations?

The popularity of the organization is its F-series trucks. Ford started its first TT model series in 1917 as a simple engine trailer.

First-Generation Trucks

In 1948, the corporation introduced the first generation of three F-series trailers in the market. They were built, especially for loading heavyweight at farm places and markets. The first-generation body outline was outstanding.

The organization introduced these trailers in the market as a million-dollar cab. This cab was cozy and spacious.

A special kind of hydraulic shock system was fit in the driving seat to minimize the disturbance.

They were available in five sorts of colors; Grey, Black, Yellow, Green, and Vermillion. A 95-horsepower engine was fit in it but can modify up to 100-horsepower.

The next version was similar to the 1948 version. In 1951, the corporation built enormous changes in it.

Second-Generation

The firm revised the blueprint and improved it to look more attractive to the customers.

The 1953 F-series had a new cab with a large glass area. They also improved the working of the front axle. In the next year, some changes happened in the trailer.

The 1954 version of the F-series used a flathead V8 type engine instead of an overhead V8 engine. The new copy had a 223 cubic inches cylinder engine plus 115-horsepower.

The grille of this copy had a set of vertical guards. The organization successfully introduced an automatic transmission system in all the models of the F-series.

Third-Generation Ford Trucks

Fourth-Generation

These vehicles were unpopular among people. The main reason for unpopularity was their old-fashioned design and fewer features.

Improved mechanical and steering features made driving easy and comfortable for new customers.

The two-wheel driving type used the one section bed design while the four-wheel driving type used the two-section cab design. There was no change produced in the engine.

The F-series was available in two different engines 135-horsepower with 200 torque and 160-horsepower with 270 torque.

The main changes created were advanced manual transmission, windshield wipers, the mirror (for rear view), and interior cabin light.

The corporation installed automatic transmission Ford-o-Matic in F-100 and Cruise-o-Matic where the seat color was brown. They added more cushion in them to make it comfortable for the driver.

In the following years, there was no particular change formed in the vehicles. The grille and cab design were as usual. 

Due to competition in the market, the organization started using heavy-duty instruments. A reserve tire was fit on the backside of the box to use in the emergency time.

The corporation advanced the mechanical system to consume less fuel. These changes increased the value of the dampers.

In the mid of this, the company was installing the air conditioning system and AM radio.

The storage compartment was built for the driver to keep his accessories. The firm started to use large tail lights to fulfill the ICC safety rules.

Fifth-Generation

The firm focused on the safety of its customers to minimize death in accidents. They started using seat belts in their vehicles.

The organization improved the side-panels to protect the outer covering of the cab. The company revised and upgraded the braking system of vehicles to advance them as compared to previous copies.

A new engine-352 cub inch V8 with 208-horsepower was available in the 1967 F-series. In 1968, the laborer protest disturbed the production of the trailers.

Front disc brakes were available only in F-250 and F-350. The company presented two packages (Contractor Package and Farm Package) of the trailer in 1969.

Sixth-Generation Ford

They launched their new F-series that had three copies F-100, F-250, and F-350. The latest glove compartment was larger than the other models. It was under its body.

The Super-Cab also introduced new comfortable seats for the passengers sitting at the back.

Customers utilized it for both family purposes as well as conventional office work. In only twelve months, they transformed it into a family-used vehicle.

They also gave the option of a 4-wheel system in their new vehicles. This feature helped their customers to drive it off-road as well. They continued their F series as well.

They launched their new F-350 in 1974. The F-250 and F-350 were capable of pulling other campers as well. It had a manual transmission, powered brakes, and power steering as well.

In 1977 the Ford became the number 1 automobile selling agency. In 1978 they achieved another milestone by selling 864,000 F-series vehicles. A radio set, mirror, and a manual 4wd system were available in the new F-series.

In 1979 they utilized the same copy as launched in 1978 with fewer changes in it. This time, they gave rectangular lights, with different interior and exterior colors.

Seventh Generation

The organization gave a new outline for the doors of their vehicles. It consumed less fuel than usual. In 1981 the technicians used older prototypes with some minor changes.

The engineers put electronic locks on the doors to prevent any robbery. Two fuel tanks were there under the body of the pickup. Anyone with the basic knowledge of automobiles was able to drive them.

1982 was the year of automobile engineers trying their best to put every new technology in their vehicles. The 1982 copy was far more efficient than other designs.

They consumed much less fuel and proved to be economical. Packages were of two types, camper and trailer package.

The camper package had a heavy-duty engine and a transmission cooler. It was created, particularly for people interested in going out for camping.

The Crew-Cab was again available in the F-350 in 1983. This cab offered a newly designed diesel engine with a capacity of 6.9liters. It also had amplitude modulation radios. You should know the weight of F350 before you purchase it.

The F-150 got the title for the lightest automobile, the use of a 5.8-liter V8 effectively increased its power. A 4×4 system was made available for almost all copies.

In the next two years, F-150 utilized folding seats. It had a new 3-way manual transmission system that increased its horsepower by 31 percent.

Eighth Generation

They redesigned their 1980s F-150. It was important to note that they kept their design the same but gave sufficient minor changes. These pickups had a unique shape and style. No other automobile firm was near them, neither in terms of manufacture nor size.

Bumpers were made smaller, and the wheel guards rounder and rounder gave the model a new streamlined shape. The light weight F-150 had newly-built glove boxes and dashboards. The windshield washer reservoir capacity also increased.

The cooperation achieved another milestone in 1988 by selling a significant number of pickups for eleven years. It contained floors with rubber on them and wheels of steel.

Its interior was more comfortable than ever. The 7.3-liter diesel used in campers gave a horsepower of 150 and torque of 350 lb. foot.

It was almost impossible to find any imperfection in the design of the F-series. In 1989, E4OD replaced the computer-controlled systems. The driver was able to tilt or slide his seat.

These dampers used power brakes, steering, and mirror along with a 4.9L engine cylinder. In 1990, F-150 was the top sold dampers in America.

A new sports package was also available, especially for people interested in sports. A 5-way transmission along with three-speed automatics was available in them.

The organization installed a 5-liter engine with an electronic 4×4 system in F-150. A new method of painting known as the two-tone made its debut in the market. Both electronic and manual 4wd system was available in the automobile stores.

Ninth Generation

It had electric plugs in its interior. A grill fixed around the back and front lights gave a better and unique look.

The corporation launched its lightweight high-performing pickup in 1993, also known by the name Special Vehicle Team. This F-150 SVT was unique and one of its kind.

It was capable of hitting 60mph in just 7 seconds. After 15 seconds, no damper could reach its speed.

In 1994 there were not any special updates in the blueprint of the F-series. Although a few safety updates were built, which were the insertion of the airbag on the driver side for safety in dampers. They put bench seats in place of the rear seats in the 1995 version.

There was also an addition of AM and FM audio systems. Ford sold a total of 800,000 vehicles in 1996.

Tenth Generation

The organization continued its dominance in 1997 as well. This year, they made a complete change of body for its F-series.

They changed its interior, exterior, back, and front. It was such a unique design that they named it the best damper for the year 1997. They added airbags for both the front seats.

In 1998, the company completed its 50 years of excellence. F-150 had a horsepower of 205 and a torque of 255 lb. ft with a 4.2L V6 engine at that time. In 1999, F-series used a new grill and unique bumper. Also, the SVT version of Ford made its return.

The launch of the F-150 Harley in the year 2000 made some news. The Ford company worked in coordination with the Harley-Davidson company for five years.

P235 tires were made available for Harley F-150. Also, technicians equipped dampers with the 5.4L Triton engine.

In 2001, they devised a new style known as a super-crew in which there were four doors of their pickup. The use of a 4.6L Triton V8 engine increased torque and power.

The year 2003 was that in which the company celebrated its 100th anniversary. In the versions 2003 and 2004 of the F-series, some of the new changes were noise reduction, new color addition, and new lenses for its headlight.

Eleventh Generation

This began in 2004, with a medical toolbox and a flashlight placed in the trailer cabin. In 2005 the company won more than 30 awards. The engineers devised an automatic system for the deployment of airbags in case of an accident.

The dumper was capable of carrying up to 3000 pounds. At that time, there were four most utilized pickups. They were F-150 SXT, F-150 FX4, F-150 XL, and F-150 lariat.

The F-150 pickup won many awards in 2006. If you wanted to pick and tow heavy material simultaneously, then there was no comparison of the 2006 version of the F-150. 

The price of the 2007 F-150 was less than the 2006 F-150. They utilized the V6-engine in the 2007 model of the Ford. In 2008, they put a 6.4-liter power stroke in F-150. It was more powerful and produced less noise.

Twelfth Generation

For this purpose, they changed the interior with a soft rubber material. These lightweight pickup vans had more power than any other ordinary van.

The company made many changes to F-150in 2010 and 2011. They installed new fans in the engine for its efficient and effective working.

They introduced a mechanism through which one was able to control the speed of the vehicle remotely. EcoBoost utilized the strength of V8 for less fuel consumption like V6.

The 2012 model of F-150 helped customers while driving hilly areas. It prevented the pickup from going back while moving up. Drivers were also able to tow their F-150 in case of any emergency.

They utilized new high-quality headlights in the 2014 model. It increased the visibility level and enabled the drivers to look through the darkness.

Thirteenth Generation

This starts in the year 2015. The dampers have led lights and a 360 camera.

There is a remote lock unlock system as well. Side mirrors have led lights. In 2016 the corporation launched a new SSV package for the F-150 series. The option of using a led screen is also available in it.

The up-gradation of the 3.8L V6 EcoBoost increased the torque up to 450lb-ft. They used a method for automatically starting and stopping the engine. They used a 3.3-liter V6-engine in the 2018 model of the F-series.

The company also added some brand-new interior and exterior colors in the 2019 model.

It is fully upgraded and has all of the qualities that a pickup possesses. It is also available in different colors. Every year, the company brings a variety of colors to the market. It comes with a 36-gallon fuel tank.
